Chairman of the Osh City Military Court Bakyt Arabaev began on 17 October in the town of Mailuu-Suu in the southern Jalal-Abad Province a trial connected with the Aksy tragedy. All the six defendants appeared in the court, however, to give them time to familiarize with the accusations and materials of the trial, Arabaev announced the next court session would be held on 22 October. The defendants are former head of the Aksy district administration Shermamat Osmonov, former prosecutor of the district Abdykalyk Kaldarov, former head of the Jalal-Abad Province police department Kubanychbek Tokobaev, his deputies Abdymital Kalbaev and Alik Rakishev, and former head of the district police department Daniyar Kuluev. All of them are accused of power abuse.
However, the accused officials and their supporters have held protest meetings both in Bishkek and the regions recently saying they only implemented the orders from Bishkek and officials who ordered opening fire at the protest demonstrations must be brought to justice instead. They name former head of the presidential staff Amanbek Karypkulov, former Minister of Internal Affairs Temirbek Akmataliev, former prosecutor general Chubak Abyshkaev, and former prosecutor of the Jalal-Abad Province Zootbek Kudaibergenov as officials really responsible for the bloodshed.
