BISHKEK. An Alternate Public Commission On Constitutional Reforms today held a round table on the forthcoming referendum. Most of the participants of the gathering, including politicians, human rights activists, writers and scholars had several objections against the draft text of the Constitution. A leader of the Kyrgyzstan Human Rights Movement, Tursunbek Akun suggested to ask authorities to postpone the referendum, giving more time to discuss its issues. Professor, an economist Kubanychbek Idinov backed the Government’s draft of the Constitution’s revised version.
Yesterday, the Coalition for Democracy and Civil Society (Kyrgyzstan) made a statement accusing Government of failure in organizing works for constitutional reforms and demanded its resignation. The Coalition members are opposing an idea on immunity of future ex-president(s) from justice.
