BISHKEK. Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev today visited the southern region of Jalalabad and discussed with its residents the political developments in the country. He said that the forthcoming referendum on the new version of the Constitution addresses all the main requirements of the post-transition society and complies with the classic pattern of presidential and parliamentarian rule. The Governor of the region, Jusupbek Sharipov told the audience that about 20,000 people attended 1334 meetings devoted to the referendum agenda. He said, some of the participants of these meetings suggested to omit the party lists from the electoral procedures and to elect the lawmakers directly.
The President, in his turn, said that there will be an increase of salaries of teachers and doctors, as well as an increase of pensions starting in April of this year. The construction of the irrigation canal of Uchterek in the Aksy district will also start this year. He said, about 43 million soms will be allocated to develop the mountainous Toktogul district.
