BISHKEK. Campaigns of pro- and against the referendum agenda are gathering momentum in every region of Kyrgyzstan. In the Jalalabad region, for instance, banners with slogans, such as ‘We support this referendum’ were hang out in different places. Five local sportsmen held a long-distance race in the town of Jalalabad in support of the referendum.
Meanwhile, the leader of the ‘Erkindik’ (Freedom) Party, Topchubek Turgunaliev, told RFE/RL today that, as he puts it, the central and local authorities are trying to buy the local voters by providing the region with social and economic aid and addressing some long awaited issues.
