BISHKEK. The opposition-minded politicians of Kyrgyzstan decided to establish a National Democratic Fund (NDF). The leader of the 'Atameken' (Motherland) Socialist Party, lawmaker Omurbek Tekebaev told RFE/RL today that a main aim of the NDF is to support NGOs and other civic institutions in Kyrgyzstan. The referendum on the constitutional reforms held on February 2, showed that these institutions are still weak in the country, Tekebaev said. Among the initiators of the NDF's organization are the 'Arnamys' (Dignity) Party of the jailed opposition leader, Feliks Kulov, and an NGO for fighting corruption.
