BISHKEK. The Movement for the Resignation Of President Askar Akayev and For Reforms In the Interests of the People has appealed to President Askar Akayev to attend their meeting devoted to the five protesters shot dead by police during last year's peaceful protest action in the Aksy district of Jalalabad region. The remembrance meeting will be held in the village of Bospiek, the main place of the shootings in March 17, 2002. As the leader of the movement, lawmaker Azimbek Beknazarov told journalists today, several opposition and other parties and NGOs will be represented at the remembrance meeting.
The Aksy shootings were one of the main events that catalysed current political reforms in the country, including the adoption of the new version of the constitution.
