BISHKEK. A member of the opposition “Arnamys” (Dignity) Party, Omurbek Subanaliev, was appointed the head of the Ombudsman office’s department which looks after the relations of the office with the executive authorities and law-enforcement bodies. Subanaliev is one of the closest allies of the jailed politician, ex-vice-president Feliks Kulov.
According to local experts, the move shows that the Ombudsman, Tursunbai Bakir-Uulu, is trying to establish an independent institution in the country. The Office staff has been appointed in accordance with the competition results.
Three deputies of the Ombudsman are expected to be elected by the Legislative Assembly (lower chamber) of the Kyrgyz parliament next week.
