BISHKEK. Head of the headquarters of the opposition "Arnamys" (Dignity) Party, Emil Aliev, told RFE/RL today that the party supports the military actions against Saddam Hussein's dictatorship in Iraq. "We don't like war as means of resolving the conflicts. However, several countries that maintain the anti-war stance now, did not sufficiently work in the frameworks of the United Nations against Saddam's regime", Aliev said. He confirmed that Feliks Kulov, the leader of the party and the former vice president, is also backing the USA in the Iraqi issues. Kulov is currently serving a jail term. Opposition forces said that the court verdict against Kulov was politically motivated. Aliev also said that Kulov's health is good, he is not a person who might loose his spirit. These days Kulov is waiting for his transfer from the cell in the National Security Service to a regular prison in accordance with the law. However, the authorities are delaying the transfer.
Aliev said that the Kyrgyz authorities are trying to frighten the ordinary members of the party as well. However, its activities will not be stopped, the head of the party headquarters told the RFE/RL correspondent. The party denounced the official results of the constitutional referendum held on February 2, this year, as being forged.
