BISHKEK. (Apr 12.) Secretary General of the Eurasian Economic Community (EEC), Grigoriy Rapota, met with the Kyrgyz President, Askar Akayev, in Bishkek during his visit to Kyrgyzstan today. The two sides discussed problems that will be on the agenda of the forthcoming session of the EEC Council in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on April 27, this year. Among the discussed issues were the problems of cooperation of the EEC member-states in the field of joint use of the hydro-energy resources, as well as the development of multilateral cooperation in transportation between the EEC member-states. Akayev said that Kyrgyzstan supports every effort in the direction of integration in the frameworks of the EEC.
Rapota said that the cooperation in transportation is one of the unresolved problems of the EEC. He mentioned as an example that Kazakhstan and Belarus did not ratify the EEC agreement on the motor transportation yet. Rapota said that efforts of the four CIS countries to establish a free trade zone union do not contradict to the aims of the EEC.
