Sarybulak Tragedy Investigation: Latest


Bishkek. The Kyrgyz governmental commission on investigation of the Sarybulak tragedy today announced the official results of its work. Eighteen out of 21 passengers and drivers aboard the Bishkek-Kashghar bus were Chinese citizens, mainly ethnic Uighurs. Three passengers were Kyrgyz citizens, the head of the governmental commission, deputy prime minister Kubanychbek Jumaliev told journalists today. He also said that 15 bodies were sent to Kashghar today.
The three Kyrgyz citizens were the ethnic Uzbeks from the southern Jalalabad region.
About 18 days ago, a Chinese bus headed from Bishkek towards Kashghar, was stopped by unknown people near the Sarybulak village in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region, then its passengers and drivers were shot by machine guns and the bus was set on fire.
Kyrgyz officials said that the killing does not have any political motivation, and its aim was robbery.
