Bishkek (Apr 15). About 300 residents of Kyrgyzstan today protested at the intersection of Akhunbayev and Kiyev streets blocking transport and demanding to bring to justice those who established an allegedly fake company in order to cheat them. The protesters told an RFE/RL correspondent that a firm, entitled "World Enterprise", officially registered by the Kyrgyz Justice ministry in February, this year, had collected several hundred thousand soms from its clients, promising to give them a better job. The job seekers had to work with cheap glass beads stringing them into necklaces etc., to receive the promised money. Then the company suddenly closed its four offices on Monday without giving any details on its future plans.
Joldoshbek Busurmankulov, the head of the press service of the Kyrgyz Interior ministry, told RFE/RL today that an accountant of the accused company has been detained, but the director of the firm, Nizam Abdullaev, was not available to comment on the issue. Tursunbek Akun, a human rights campaigner, said that about 4,000 people were deceived by the company and they are going to organize another gathering tomorrow.
