BISHKEK, April 22. Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev today visited the village of Karataryk in the Uzgen district of Osh Region, where a landslide killed about 38 people. Akayev presented his condolences to the villagers on the tragedy which occurred last Sunday. He said that the Kyrgyz government will allocate about 200,000 soms in emergency loan to each of the families. Participants of the meeting read from the Koran in commemoration of the people who died.
Meanwhile, about 17 families in the village of Karataryk have already been transferred to a safe place. Several dozens other families in the district have to be moved from their homes to safe parts of their villages.
