BISHKEK. Rolf Ekeus, the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, started his visit to Kyrgyzstan today. He met with Kyrgyz foreign minister, Askar Aitmatov, the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the parliament, Abdygany Erkebayev, state secretary, Osmonakun Ibraimov, and first deputy prime minister, Kurmanbek Osmonov, to discuss the problems of the ethnic minorities in Kyrgyzstan.
Tomorrow, Ekeus will attend a conference devoted to the processes of integration within the post-Soviet Kyrgyz society and the problems of education in the multi-ethnic country. The conference will be held in Osh. It is expected that Ekeus will wrap-up his visit to the country by meeting with President Askar Akayev and Ombudsman, Tursunbai Bakir-Uuli.
