QUARRELS ON THE BY-ELECTIONS TO PARLIAMENT CONTINUE.

Candidate Dastan Berdiev, who lost the run-off election to Samat Borubaev on 3 November, appealed to the Supreme Court demanding to annul results of the election. According to the local election commission, Borubaev took 52 percent of votes and Berdiev 44 percent in the run-off.

Four vacant seats in parliament were opened after some parliamentarians were appointed to the government last May. Only one deputy, former prime minister of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev was elected in the first round collecting 67 percent of votes in the Ala-Buka constituency on 20 October. Run-offs in the two other constituencies, set first for 3 November, have been postponed.
