Muslims Celebrate End of Ramadan


BISHKEK. Today, around 30,000 people attended prayers in the Ala-Too square in the capital Bishkek. The prayer was devoted to Orozo Ayt (Eid al-Fitr) marking the end of Ramadan. State Secretary Osmonakun Imbrayimov read out a statement from president Akayev calling on the people of Kyrgyzstan for tolerance and peace. Ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey spoke as well. Muslims each paid 6 Soms (Apr. 10 cents) religious fee, before dispersing.

Mass prayers were also held in Osh and Ysyk-Koel regional centers.
