MP Intends To Sue President


BISHKEK. Deputy of the Legislative Assembly (lower chamber) of Kyrgyz parliament, General Ismail Isakov said today to a RFE/RL correspondent, that he intends to sue President Askar Akayev for insulting him. The deputy, who is a head of the oppositional Movement for Resignation of Askar Akayev and for Reforms in the Interests of the Nation, said that during the recent Osh trip President Akayev insulted him. “If President won't apologize before my electors in Alay, Chong-Alay and Kara-Suu districts, I intend to sue him,” said Isakov. On Dec 3, 2002, President Akayev criticized some opposition politicians. Regarding Isakov, he said that when the terrorists came in Batken in 1999, “General Isakov was afraid of them and resigned from his position” (of deputy defense minister). According to Isakov, he resigned before the assault of the members of the Islamic movement of Uzbekistan in August 1999.
