Peace Corps Volunteers Take an Oath.

BISHKEK. A new group of US Peace Corps' volunteers today has taken an oath in front of the US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, John O'Keefe. President Askar Akayev also attended the ceremony and expressed his gratitude to the Peace Corps and the US Government for contribution in the fields of education and learning English. He said that the volunteer activities in Kyrgyzstan became one of the bright examples of close cultural relations between both countries. 63 volunteers are going to teach English and economics at Kyrgyz schools. The new volunteers sang the famous Kyrgyz patriotic song “Kyrgyz jerim” (My Beloved Kyrgyz Land) in Kyrgyz at the end of the ceremony. The first team of the Peace Corps started its work in 1993.
