BISHKEK. The State Commission For the Religious Affairs is to work out a new governmental concept on religion. The government's press service said that the commission will monitor an issue of religious streams in the country. Muftiyat, the leadership of the Muslim community in the country, decided to put a stop to attempts by some new religious groups to proselytize Muslims and other followers of the traditional religions.
There are 1345 officially registered religious groups and their local branches in Kyrgyzstan. 1068 of them belong to the Muslims, 250 - to Christians. The other groups are part of about 20 different religious missions.
