BISHKEK. Some opposition members have criticized the presidential decree and his today's speech aired by NBT and Kyrgyz State TV channels, saying that President wants to announce early parliamentary elections. Ishenbai Kadyrbekov, opposition MP, told RFERL today that after the referendum President would say that he is the only legitimate authority holder in the country. Another MP, Adakham Madumarov said that President eliminated all the main points agreed by both the Government and opposition sides during the Constitutional Council meetings in 2002. He criticized a draft clause on inviolability of future ex-president and his (her) family members. Some NGO leaders also criticized the draft as an undemocratic move by the President.
Former minister of foreign affairs Muratbek Imanaliev told RFERL that February was earlier to be the set date for the referendum, because, as he put it, many residents in the remote regions did not properly attend the nation-wide debate on the referendum agenda.
