Former Kyrgyz Militant Will Be Called To Justice In Batken


BISHKEK. The former Council member of the outlawed Islamic militant
organization, so-called Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), Sheraly Akbotoev
will be tried by the Batken district court on February 3. Chairman of the district
court, Pamirdin Jumagulov told RFERL today that Akbotoev is accused by the
General Prosecutor's office of organizing an unlawful armed band, participating
in terrorist actions and hostage taking and other crimes. Akbotoev, a resident of
the village Karabak in the Batken district, joined the Islamic militants together
with his family in 1999. He was detained in a foreign country and brought to
Bishkek last year, after that he made a confession on his activities as a member
of the IMU.
