BISHKEK. Property as well as the bank account of the independent newspaper ‘Moia stolitsa’ (My Capital City) have been confiscated. The chief editor of the outlet, Aleksander Kim, told RFE/RL today that it is unclear whether a new copy of the newspaper will be printed. According to Kim, the Lenin district court issued a verdict to only confiscate the property of the newspaper on January 20. However, the representative of the court for implementing its verdict, Ernest Jusupov, confiscated the newspaper’s bank accounts too. Kim said that he will appeal to the court to stop these illegal actions.
Opposition politicians and human rights activists have been questioning the legal processes against the newspaper, saying that the authorities want to silence each one of the powerful independent outlets in the country.
