BISHKEK. United States Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones will arrive in Bishkek this evening. Tomorrow she will meet with the Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev, Foreign minister Askar Aitmatov and other officials. Both sides will discuss a wide range of issues, including Kyrgyz-American relations, regional security problems and other topics. Last Saturday Jones met with Uzbekistan officials and raised the issue of human rights in the Central Asian country.
It is also expected that she will meet with representatives of independent outlets in Kyrgyzstan. Jones visited Kyrgyzstan in January of last year.
