BISHKEK. Usen Sydykov, the former deputy prime minister, barred from the run-off election at the No 33 Karakulja constituency last fall, told RFE/RL today that he refused to participate at an election for the parliament seat at another constituency in the Karasuu district of the Osh region. Sydykov said that several residents of the Karasuu district proposed he run for the seat in their constituency. "However, I cannot leave my supporters at the Karakulja constituency at a time when nothing was settled", Sydykov said.
The election authorities have not set the run-off date yet for the Karakulja constituency. The courts say that there were some irregularities in his documentation. Sydykov and his supporters say that the decision of the courts to bar him was a politically motivated move.
