Modernity of Ancient Nomads in Pamir of Tajikstan
The Kyrgyz of Pamir live today divided by borders: some in China, some in Afghanistan, majority in Tajikistan. Those in Tajikistan were settled during the early years of USSR but continue seminomadic lifestyle. In old times they were guides for caravans crossing from what is now Afghanistan and India, as well as for running Russian Whites (who were escaping bolshevics). Today mobile phone and English speaking young people is not a rarity in this remote place. And they provide services to foreign tourists from West. Janyl Jusupjan visited a pasture called Korumdu on Tajik-Afghan border and filed this photogallery.
