BISHKEK. Ombudsman Tursunbai Bakir-uulu officially starts his work on January 21, 2003. He told RFERL today that the Government is to give him offices in the center of the capital city as it was agreed during his meeting with President Askar Akayev. Several international organizations are backing the Ombudsman, who was a leader of the opposition political party and MP before election to this newly established position. On January 16, 2003, Legislative assembly (lower chamber) of the Kyrgyz parliament will elect three deputies of the Ombudsman, There are 27 contenders for these positions.
