Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry Says Referendum Will Be Held On Scheduled Date


BISHKEK. Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry today made a statement on the forthcoming referendum. It says that the concerns of international organizations, including the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, would not change intentions of Bishkek to hold the referendum on the scheduled date, that is Sunday, February 2, 2003. The Ministry says that the constitutional reform efforts started six months before. During that time several political parties, NGOs, international organizations, diplomatic missions and mass media have been monitoring the process. Now several observers from different countries and representatives of the Central Electoral Committee will observe the referendum procedures, the statement stresses.
