BISHKEK. Lawmaker, and leader of the 'Asaba' National Revival Party, Azimbek Beknazarov, told journalists today that the plaintiffs of the Aksy events might appeal to International court with the help of the international human rights organizations, if the Kyrgyz authorities fail to bring to justice those responsible for shooting demonstrators. During the Aksy protest action on March 17-18, 2002, at least five peaceful protesters were shot dead by police.
Beknazarov told about the European parliament session held in Strasbourg, France, on February 12, which was devoted to discussion of the political situation in Kyrgyzstan. According to Beknazarov, state secretary Osmonakun Ibraimov and first deputy prime minister, Kurmanbek Osmonov gave misleading information about the Aksy tragedy and human rights situation at the session.
