BISHKEK. The Lenin district military commissariat summoned the leader of the Coalition for Democracy and Civil Society, Edil Baisalov, and forced him to go to a military hospital for a medical check-up. Baisalov told RFE/RL today that the military commission had decided that he can not serve in compulsory military service because of his weak eyesight, but now it is trying to put him in hospital against his wishes. 'This is an abuse of my human rights' Baisalov said.
The Coalition, led by Baisalov, made a statement today saying that the executive authorities used this method to prevent him to participate at Friday's round table organized by Freedom House and to present a paper on human rights abuses in Kyrgyzstan.
