Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Participates At the CIS Ministerial Meeting In Dushanbe


BISHKEK. Kyrgyz foreign minister, Askar Aitmatov, is participating at the session of the foreign ministers of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) member-states. Among the issues discussed were the current and post-war Iraq situation, fighting international terrorism and regional security problems.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Yakovenko said the situation in Iraq is seriously affecting the security of nearby members of the CIS.
The Kyrgyz foreign ministry's press service told journalists that the ministers are expected to approve a draft CIS program for fighting international terrorism and other manifestations of extremism for 2003-2004. The document will be signed at the next CIS summit in Yalta this September.
Other issues on the agenda are adopting a resolution on the appointment of the next commander of the Collective Peace-keeping Force in Abkhazia and preparations for the 60th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
