BISHKEK, 25 April. The Bishkek city court upheld today a previous verdict by the Lenin district court over the independent "Moia Stolitsa" newspaper which is to pay to a plaintiff, Kyrgyz prime minister Nikolai Tanayev, about 500,000 som ( more than $10,000) in fine for alleged insult. The author of the critical article, Rina Prizhivoit, is to pay him 220,000 soms ($1 is about 44,2 soms). Aleksandr Kim, editor-in-chief of the paper, told RFE/RL today that the court verdict was politically motivated and the newspaper will appeal to the Kyrgyz High court to ask it to overturn the verdict.
